"Simon Dupree and the Big Sound -Without Reservations -1967 UK":

Simon Dupree and the Big Sound's sole LP recorded and released prior to their one big British hit, the psychedelic pop single "Kites." It's in much more of a blue eyed soul vein than "Kites" , with hints of ska and pop, though it's brassy American styled soul with organ that carries the day.
This kind of blue eyed soul was just starting to pass out of fashion in the UK by the time it came out in 1967, though the LP did edge into the British Top Forty. Still, this has some pretty soulrock cuts, like their version of the Five Americans' "I See the Light", their cover of a young Albert Hammond's "Reservations" and "Love," a pretty cool exuberant number penned by Jackie Edwards, who'd written hits for the Spencer Davis Group.

"Julian's Treatment - A Time Before This-1970 UK":

This is a proto-prog masterpiece featuring wild organ runs, fuzzed out guitar, flute passages and trippy female vocals. The brainchild of this musical project was Julian Jay Savarin who was born in Dominica and moved to Britian in the early sixties. He was impressed by the London music scene and decided to form his own band to start his ideas about a SF trilogy he was working on. He started rehearsing with John Dover (bass), Del Watkins (guitar), Jack Drummond (drums) and Cathy Pruden (vocals). In June '70 the label Youngblood released their first album "A Time Before This".
The music is build upon the expressive and powerful vocals of Cathy Pruden and the compelling keyboards of Julian (lots of organ and some Mellotron). Some songs feature fine electric guitar work.

"Womb - Overdub-1969 US":
The second album from San Francisco-based band Womb. Great late 60's acid sounds, plenty of fuzz guitar, trippy studio effects, female vocals etc. The album is essentially crossover between the psychedelic and progressive era.'Flash' a somewhat mystical, trippy piece of psychedelia, 'Love' is experimental soft psychedelia with liberal lashings of woodwind and 'Evil People' an amalgam of psychedelia and progressivism with nice guitar work.

Members: Karyl Boddy - piano, guitar, vocals
Ron Brunecker - drums
Rory Butcher - congas, percussion, vocals
Christopher Johnson - bass
Roluf Stuart - saxophone, flute
Greg Young - guitar

"The Peanut Butter Conspiracy - The Great Conspiracy -1968 US":

The Peanut Butter Conspiracy second album.PBC was a Psychedelic rock band formed in Los Angeles, 1966. Spun off from the folk-rock band Ashes, incl. John Merrill (guitar/ vocals), Alan Brackett (bass/ vocals), Barbara Robison (vocals) 'or "Sandy Peanut Butter" as she was called at that time', Spencer Dryden (drums) and Jim Cherniss (guitar/ vocals).

Very similiar to Jefferson Airplane or Mamas and Papas( female vocalist male backing members). Comparisons aside this is excellent well written with great vocals from female singer Sandy. The songs are steeped deep in the San Fransisco sound- part pysche-part acid rock pastoral folk.
A must for psyche summer of love "hippies" or sixties fans!!!

"David Peel & the Lower East Side - Have a Marijuana - 1968 US":

David Peel is a New York-based musician who first recorded in the late 1960s, with Harold Black, Billy Jo White and Larry Adams performing as ' The Lower East Side Band'.
Though his raw, acoustic "street rock" with lyrics about marijuana and "bad cops" appealed mostly to hippies.

"The Paupers - Ellis Island -1968 Canada":

The group was formed as The Spats in Toronto during 1964 by ex-Riverside Three drummer Skip Prokop and rhythm guitarist/vocalist Bill Marion aka Bill Misener. The other original members comprised lead guitarist Chuck Beal and bass player Denny Gerrard.

Ellis Island, the second album by the Paupers, contains a front cover color photo of the four band members inserted on a Sgt. Pepper-style collage by Ollie Alpert.

The LP is a very psychedelic, would've been a blessing for the latter-day Blues Magoos and Electric Prunes. Without the hit singles those groups enjoyed, the Paupers "Ellis Island" never got the attention it kind of deserved.

by request: "Lynn Blessing -Sunset Painter -1969 US":
Shortly before he appeared on the landmark Advancement LP in 1969, vibraphone virtuoso Lynn Blessing released this, a superb fusion of jazz and laid-back psychedelia, his only solo album. A player best known for his LA session work in the 60s and who's stepping out here in a slightly psychedelic approach to jazz!

"The Jelly Bean Bandits -S/T- 1967 US ":

Newburgh, New York psychpunks the Jelly Bean Bandits formed in 1966. Singer Billy Donald, guitarist Jack Dougherty, bassist Fred Buck, keyboardist Michael "Mr. Addams" Raab, and drummer Joe "Laredo London" Scalfari originally operated as "the Mirror", regularly packing area nightspots like the local Trade Winds, Poughkeepsie's Buccaneer Nightclub and Burlington, Vermont's Red Dog.

In due time, they recorded a three song demo reel that resulted in a three album recording contract with Mainstream Records however, unknown to Mainstream, these three songs represented the sum total of the Jelly Bean Bandits' repertoire, forcing the band to write enough additional material to flesh out a fulllength LP in the course of a week.

Amazingly, their eponymous 1967 debut is excellent, a freakbeat cult classic distinguished by Dougherty's emotive guitar and some innovative production techniques all the more impressive, the album was recorded in a single 12hour stretch.

An extremely rare psych-rock cult classic from Mainstream Records.

"Damnation of Adam Blessing - Second Damnation -1970 US":
Cleveland, Ohio's Damnation of Adam Blessing scored only a few regional hits and barely dented the national charts, but artistically, they were far and away more original and innovative than any band from their hometown and could even make that case with plenty from outside Ohio.
The Damnation of Adam Blessing's second LP went into a harder psychedelic direction than their 1969 selftitled debut.
Members:
Adam Blessing - Lead Vocals
Ray Benich - Bass Guitar

by request: "The Duke Of Burlington - Flash-1970 Italy":
The Duke Of Burlington were a lost Italian combo from the 70s. The band mix up hard heavy piano, funky drum breaks, choppy guitar and some nice soulful flute solos. This album includes the incredible breakbeat classic "Flash", sampled many times over the years and fantastic instrumental tracks featuring great covers of El Chicano's "Viva Tirado", The Jackson 5 "I Want You Back" , Dick Hyman's "The Minotaur", plus some really great original material, like "Criss Cross", "Jungle Duke", "Flute For President", "Slot Machine" and "LSD".

"Asha Puthli - S/T- 1973 Germany":"
Rare Groove first LP from this Indian soul & pop singer, recorded in Germany with backings that are a mixture of spacey electric, smooth funk and campy easy grooves.
Asha's voice is very weird, including so good numbers here like 'I DIG LOVE' & 'LIES' with guitar chords and superb vocals & the moody funky 'RIGHT DOWN HERE' with it's faded in drum break intro, funky bass, Rhodes arrangements.

"Chico Magnetic Band – S/T-1971 or 1973 France":

Super rare extremely psychedelic LP produced by Jean Pierre Massiera. Way out dark psych with funky grooves and Hendrix-esque solos. Insane late '60's styled heavy rock with plenty of weird electronic and backwards effects, screaming acid guitar work, weird vocals and assorted percussive and acoustic decoration.
A truly masterfull album featuring a very heavy version of Hendrix's "Cross Town Traffic".

"Ben and The Platano Group- Paris Soul-1971 France":

Essential killer soul funk with latin influence from France. Original is very rare and expensive because they've only out 300 Lp in 70's By Barclay Label. One of the best and original heavy latin funk LP of all time. Jazz funk with afro cuban flavors, easy bossa jazz moods and a brazilian touch.Conducted by E. Nata, the group worked for the parisian cabaret "Le Lido" and the history tell they out the record in 1970 just before the leader was interned in a psychiatric hospital.

A FRENCH GROOVE COLLECTOR MASTERPIECE !!!

"Ricardo Marrero and the Group -Time -1977 US":

Ricardo Marrero released a few classic salsa records for Vaya in the mid 70s, plays all percussion instruments, as well as piano and vibes. When he breaks out the vibraphone, his sound is reminicent of Cal Tjader and the great Tito Puente.
Ricardo
has been at the forefront of the "Salsa" and "Latin-Jazz" musical scene since the mid 70's.He has arranged for The Fania All Stars, Pete "El Conde" Rodriguez, The 5 Stairsteps and most recently Ruben Blades.
Marrero makes his electric piano sound like vibes and always indemand for his great version of 'Feel like making love'.

"Daughters Of Albion - S/T-1968 US":

Daughters Of Albion is ostensibly the duo of Greg Dempsey and Kathy Yesse, with sweet harmonies and catchy tunes and an incredible group of players really brings in a huge, heavily orchestrated sound.
Daughters Of Albion's album released on Fontana in 1968. The album successfully contorts bright and breezy pop/psych into all manner of bizarre forms . Kathy Yesse's beautiful voice, Greg Dempsey's strange song structures and odd lyrics and producer Leon Russell's weird production tricks give the album a very "SGT PEPPER" quality.

"Bloomsbury People -S/T-1970 US":

Milwaukee-native Sigmund Snopek III may be one of the most fascinating artists to emerge from the late '60s and early '70s.

He instantly set out to start a band, forming the Bloomsbury People in 1968. The band immediately gained a degree of local success, playing frequently around Milwaukee and the surrounding region and recording a couple of 45s over the next couple years. The Bloomsbury People, he began playing an unconventional mixture of avant-garde rock, classical music, and baroque pop that eventually came to be characterized as progressive rock.

The Bloomsbury People released their sole self-titled album on MGM in 1970 and followed it up two years later with Virginia Woolf, although the latter was credited to Snopek III only, and the band disintegrated not long thereafter.

He continued making intriguing music, ranging from Top 40 pop songs to electronic pieces and jazz compositions to symphonies and operas in a career that lasted well over 30 years, culminating in his most conspicuous role as a sideman for the much-loved alternative pop band the Violent Femmes.

"Titus Oates - Jungle Lady -1974 US":

Jungle Lady is the lone LP from Titus Oates from Dallas, TX, a progressive hard rock five-piece that was never well known. The album, which is extremely well recorded, has, despite the band's Texan origins, a decidedly West Coast feel. Although their Southern roots do occasionally come to the surface in the form of some excellent Allman Brothers-style dual-guitar interludes and a couple of heavy bass riff-focused power tunes.

Lost In Tyme is Back!!!
Yes this is Lost In Tyme! We are now refugees from blogger, settling to our new home, this excellent site hosting service of UcoZ. This service offers so many new possibilities, that makes blogger look like a child's toy (We wish that we had some programming skills to use these possibilities in a better way). Anyway, now we can have not only a blog but a whole site devoted to the music we like. There will be also a forum, that we would like to grow into a community for less known music, and maybe we can built a site containing each and everyone of the almost 2000 posts of the deleted Lost In Tyme pages, complete with the restored links, an advanced search or index, to be the absolute online music encyclopedia for the begginer and the veteran music lover alike. We have many more coming up, so stay tuned! Our journey has just begun!

"The Bachs-Out of the Bachs -1968 US":

Chicago garage combo the Bachs formed in the fall of 1965. Singer/bassist Blake Allison and guitarist Mike DeHaven first collaborated in a high school group called the PhasesDeHaven later played with lead guitarist John Harrison and drummer John Babicz in another teen band, the Apollos. In time Allison also joined the Apollos, and following the addition of singer/guitarist John Peterman, the quintet renamed itself the Bachs.
Less than 200 copies of this garage/psychedelic LP were pressed back in 1968. The album is full of garage ballads and fuzzed-out rockers created by The Bachs. With its members poised to attend college, the Bachs split in April of 1968.
The band's sole record, has been classed by some genre fans as one of the greatest garage platters of the '60s, a veritable lost classic.

This L.A. group formed in 1968 and is most noted for being discovered by Jim Morrison of the Doors. The band released a self titled LP in 1968, which was produced by Robbie Krieger and John Densmore, also of the Doors. Their sound is a soft psych and can be compared to the Peanut Butter Conspiracy. The group also appeared and played two songs in the 1969 comedy film 'How To Commit Marriage', starring Bob Hope, Jackie Gleason, Jane Wyman and Leslie Nielsen. They were a band heavily influenced by the likes of It's a Beautiful Day, Sweetwater and Jefferson Airplane. One of the better obscure albums from the era.
Their one and only now-highly collectible record album was released on CBS-Ode Records.

Bernie Schwartz - lead vocals

"Juan De La Cruz - Shake Your Brains-1973 Phillipines":

Totally rocked out bluesy stoner jams, with sex and party obsessed lyrics. The Juan De la Cruz Band played at the Antipolo Rock Music Festival in December 1970, Pinoy Rock's version of Woodstock.

By skillfully employing a keyboard arsenal and monstrous fuzz-adelic bass, John and Philip Hollingsworth and a couple of pals created epic tapestries of mind-bending sound that were too large for their hometown of Fresno, California.

Before long, Canterbury Fair was unfurling its wide-screen soundscapes before the wide-eyed patrons of San Francisco's legendary ballrooms. This Sundazed collection includes the A-side of the ultra-rare single, "A Song On A May Morning" as well as the group's astounding never-before-heard full-length album.

"Mariani -Perpetuum Mobile -1970 US":

"Perpetuum Mobile",is the awesome album by MARIANI featuring Texas guitar legend ERIC JOHNSON, includes 13 trax of killer, bad-ass, mind-blowing, grooved-out, authentically trippy 70’s bluesy Hendrixy heavy guitar power trio.
"Perpetuum Mobile" is the debut and only album by the band MARIANI originally recorded and released in 1970 when ERIC JOHNSON was only 15-16 years old!!!
ERIC JOHNSON that is best remembered today as a musician but the group have the name after drummer Vince Mariani.
"Perpetuum Mobile" album is further proof of the heavy guitar legacy of ERIC JOHNSON and is a rare musical glimpse into his early bluesy Hendrixy heavy guitar power trio roots.
When you listen this album you can understand why i'm talking about ERIC JOHNSON.

"Astrud Gilberto - September 17, 1969 US":

Brazilian vocalist Astrud Gilberto was a key figure in the bossa nova movement that moved beyond Brazil to sweep the world in the early-to-mid 1960s.

Astrud Gilberto was born Astrud Weinert, the daughter of a Brazilian mother and a German father, in the state of Bahia, Brazil, and was raised in Rio de Janeiro. In 1959, she married João Gilberto, later emigrating to the U.S. in 1963, when she sang on the influential album Getz/Gilberto featuring João Gilberto, Stan Getz and Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Astrud recorded a series of superb albums for Verve, culminating with her final album for the label, September 17, 1969. A bold departure from the jazzy bossa nova sound of her previous recordings, the album lovingly covered the very best that the late-'60s had to offer: The Bee Gees ( "Holiday"), The Beatles ( "Here There And Everywhere"), The Doors ("Light My Fire") and Harry Nilsson ( "Don't Leave Me Baby").

One of the grooviest records from the lovely Astrud Gilberto.

"The Harvey Averne Dozen -S/T- 1971 US":

Harvey Averne was a latin soul-funk writer/producer and his band knew how to swing the beat. The Harvey Averne Dozen second album is a great piece of Latin Soul Boogaloo , with a background of punchy brass and wild-man electric piano solos.
The Harvey Averne Dozen alternates vocal tracks with some hot instrumentals, more in a funk vein than salsa.
The album wins out with instrumentals like the original "Dynamite" , the Beatles cover "I Feel Fine," Sonny & Cher's "The Beat Goes On" who has great brass and a stretched out tempo and vocal tracks like "Girl That I Love" and "Central Park".

"Screamin' Jay Hawkins - The Night and Day of Screamin' Jay Hawkins -1965 US":

Jalacy Hawkins, best known as Screamin' Jay Hawkins (July 18, 1929 – February 12, 2000) was an African-American singer.Famed chiefly for his powerful, operatic vocal delivery & wildly theatrical performances of songs such as "I Put a Spell on You" and "Constipation Blues," Hawkins sometimes used macabre props onstage, making him perhaps the first shock rocker.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Hawkins originally set out to become an opera singer, and has regularly cited Paul Robeson as his idol. When his initial ambitions failed, he began his career as a conventional blues singer and pianist.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Ocean during World War II, primarily as an entertainer, although he claimed to have been a POW. Hawkins was an avid and formidable boxer in 1949, he was the middleweight boxing champion of Alaska.
In 1951, he joined guitarist Tiny Grimes for a while and recorded a few songs with him. When Hawkins became a solo performer, he often performed in a very stylish wardrobe, featuring leopard skins, red leather and wild hats.
S.J.Hawkins died on February 12, 2000 in Paris, France after surgery to treat an aneurysm. He left behind many children by many women, about 55 were known (or suspected)!!!

"Beefeaters-S/T-1967 Denmark":

This band was formed in Copenhagen in early 1964, but their strong orientation towards blues-rock began only with the arrival of Peter Thorup in 1966.
In 1967, The Beefeaters played as support band for Jimi Hendrix, John Mayall and Pink Floyd during their concerts in Denmark. The Beefeaters weren't entirely blues purists either, they also displayed beat and soul influences. The sound was largely based on Thorup's talents as vocalist and guitarist, but Kjærumsgård's Farfisa organ (sometimes replaced by piano) obviously augmented the group’s sound.
Members: Peter Thorup -( guitars, vocals, flute) Morten Kjærumsgård - (organ, piano)

"The Steampacket-The First Supergroup -1962-66 UK":
The Steampacket was a British blues band of the 1960s, notable mainly for the fact that so many of its members subsequently became famous.
The group was formed by Long John Baldry after the break-up of his previous group the Hoochie Coochie Men. It included Hoochie Coochie Men vocalist Rod Stewart, female vocalist Julie Driscoll, organist Brian Auger and guitarist Vic Briggs. They were managed by Giorgio Gomelsky, who had previously been involved with The Rolling Stones and The Yardbirds.
Steampacket
played at various clubs, theatres and student unions around the country, including supporting the Rolling Stones on their 1965 British tour.
Because of contractual difficulties, however, they never formally recorded a studio or live album. Tracks from tapes made at a rehearsal in the Marquee Club in London were released after the band split as an album, 'The First Supergroup'.
Stewart left in 1966 and the group disbanded soon after. Long John Baldry pursued a solo career, Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger and Vic Briggs formed Trinity.

"Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger & The Trinity-Streetnoise- 1969 UK":

Streetnoise is a 1969 album by Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger & the Trinity, originally released as a double LP.
It includes cover versions of The Doors "Light My Fire", Nina Simone’s "Take Me To The Water", Laura Nyro’s "Save The Country", Miles Davis "All Blues", Richie Havens "Indian Rope Man", and "Let The Sunshine In" from the musical Hair. Driscoll covers this wide range of musical influences easily and with her highly emotive and distinctive vocals, and with Auger's intense Hammond organ, Streetnoise is brilliant.
Members: Brian "Auge" Auger (organ, piano, electric piano, vocals)
Julie "Jools" Driscoll (vocals, acoustic guitar)
Clive "Toli" Thacker (drums, percussion)
David "Lobs" Ambrose ( bass, acoustic guitar, vocals)

"Baby Huey - The Living Legend -1971 US":
Baby Huey (born James Ramey, January 1, 1944 - October 28, 1970) was an American rock and soul singer, born in Richmond, Indiana.
Baby Huey recorded his only album in 1970 and released in 1971, at the age of 26. By 1970, Ramey had developed an addiction to heroin, and his weight had increased to over 400 pounds. He began regularly missing gigs or turning up late, and, at the insistence of his bandmates, briefly entered rehabilitation in the spring of 1970.
James Ramey died of a heart attack on October 28, 1970, at the age of 26, and was found in his hotel bathroom by his manager. His funeral was held on November 1, in his native Richmond, Indiana. Baby Huey & the Babysitters album, was released after the death of their lead singer. Produced by Curtis Mayfield, the album featured several Mayfield compositions, as well as a cover of Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" and two original compositions by Ramey. Documentation eluded Huey, a veteran performer with a heroin habit and a super tight band the Babysitters.
Huey and the Babysitters were a modern marvel of the Chicago scene , alchemizing ribfest blues disasters and Curtis Mayfield ghetto requiems into psychedelic R&B epics.
A couple instrumentals show off the Babysitters mechanical unity: "California Dreamin'," an oddly appropriate cover with flute and the haywire dance cut "Mama Get Yourself Together." "Hard Times" and "Mighty Mighty," each Mayfield-penned, top them all.

Such a great record, too bad there was no time for a follow-up. Unfortunately, his weight and taste for drugs resulted in a fatal heart attack and the story ends early for Baby Huey .

"Chango - Honey is Sweeter than Blood- 1976 US":

Another solid album by this Santana sound band. Chango's second album is a little harder and less Latin than their first. The musicians are excellent and the songs are first rate.
Not as good as their first album but has some nice songs.

"The Electric Toilet - In The Hands Of Karma -1970 US":

The Electric Toilet led by guitarist Dave Hall, came from Memphis and their sole album includes the awesome track "Within Your State Of Mind". Driving bluesy LP with southern twang, growly lead vocal with black baptist church choir style backing, sound effects and trippy acid guitar work. Two members died in a car crash within months of its completion and the group broke up.
A stone US '60s heavy psych album!!!

"Fresh Air - A Breath Of Fresh Air-1969 US":

Fresh Air, was a tight quintet of superb musicians led by lead vocalist Marc Piscitelli's, performs 10 well recorded and beautifully delivered tracks.
Recorded in 1969 at Sunwest Studios Hollywood,CA. "A Breath Of Fresh Air" is the rarest album to appear on the Amaret label. The album is a fine mix of pop and hard psychedelic rock featuring some driving heavy guitars and swirling keybords. Great dual guitar west coast sound, includes a fast paced cover of "For What It's Worth".

"War - Youngblood -1978 US OST":

Funk group that started life in the early 1970s in Southern California. They formed out of the ashes of an earlier R&B covers group, The Creators (who also recorded as The Romeos and Senor Soul), initially naming themselves Nightshift before producer Jerry Goldstein discovered them and gave them a more distinctive name.

Their initial recordings were collaborations with Eric Burdon of English group The Animals, notably their first album 'Eric Burdon Declares War'. They later signed to United Artists and began releasing material on their own.

Their first album was not a big success but their popularity was growing and later albums were very successful. They peaked commercially in the mid-70s with their Number 1 hit 'Low Rider'.
War did the music for this funky soundtrack to an early Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs film, and although most of the stuff on here is just typical War stuff, there's one track called "Flying Machine" that's a long funky chase scene-type track. Other tracks include "The Kingsmen Sign", "Junk Yard", "Superdude", and "Youngblood".

Things started to go downhill for the group in the late 70s when bassist B.B. Dickerson left and another member, Charles Miller, was murdered. Various line-up changes followed but the original magic was lost and the group were not as successful, eventually becoming just a touring act.

Members: Lee Oskar, Lonnie Jordan, Papa Dee Allen, Harold Brown, B.B. Dickerson, Howard Scott, Charles Miller

"Eclection - S/T- 1968 UK":

One of the few British acts on the Elektra roster during that era, their sole album sounded unusually Californian for a British group of the period. Although based in England, Eclection were actually formed by one Englishman, one Canadian, one Norwegian and two Australians. Creatively, the group were dominated by guitarist/singer George Hultgreen (who wrote most of their songs) and guitarist/singer Michael Rosen (who wrote the remainder of the songs and usually took the male vocal leads).
Eclection, like several Elektra albums of the period, matched some pretty folk-rock melodicism with slightly arty orchestrated production and a psychedelic tinge. The lyrics and harmonies often evoked blissful, drifting romps through the clouds, with a youthful naivete and exuberance.
Kerrilee Male, one of the group's strongest assets, left the band in late 1968, a few months after the release of Eclection.
The group replaced her with American folk singer Dorris Henderson and did put out a subsequent single, a cover of Kaleidoscope's "Please." But the group disbanded in October 1969, after keyboardist Poli Palmer (who had just come in to replace Michael Rosen) left to join Family.
